Since 2021

What if you could become Mayor of any place you wanted?

Mayor Cards started with a simple idea: what if the places that matter to us could become part of our digital identity and our personal collections?

The idea

Not just the big cities.

Not just a capital. Not just a major city. But every town, village and small place that makes up a country.

That simple idea became Mayor Cards in 2021. The project started with the Netherlands and the belief that a place can be meaningful for reasons that have nothing to do with how famous it is.

Your hometown can matter to you. So can the village where you spent your childhood, the city where you met someone important, or a place you simply never forgot.

Mayor Cards turns those real places into unique digital collectibles that you can discover, collect and make part of your online identity.

2021

A project built around places.

Mayor Cards began in 2021, when digital collectibles were still a relatively new idea. The concept was never about complicated technology or speculation. It was about places, collecting and digital ownership.

What Mayor Cards is about

Three simple ideas.

The project has stayed surprisingly simple from the beginning.

01

Real places

Every Mayor Card represents a real place — a city, town, village, neighbourhood or smaller location.

02

Personal meaning

Collect the places that mean something to you, whether that connection comes from where you live, where you grew up or where you have travelled.

03

Digital collecting

Your Mayor Card becomes part of your digital collection and can also become part of how you represent yourself online.

Made with research

Every place has a story.

The Mayor Cards collection was not created by simply generating thousands of images and attaching place names.

Every card was hand-drafted and hand-selected, with research into the places and categories represented in the collection.

The project began before today’s generative-AI boom and before mass-produced AI images became commonplace. That hands-on approach is part of the history of Mayor Cards.

Digital ownership

Why the blockchain matters.

Mayor Cards are NFTs: unique digital assets recorded on a blockchain.

The blockchain provides a public and verifiable record of the digital asset and its ownership history. This gives collectors a way to independently verify the card and the wallet associated with it.

Owning a Mayor Card does not give you legal ownership, control or official authority over the real-world place it represents. “Mayor” is the digital collecting concept behind the project.

Your digital identity

A place can say something about you.

Your Mayor Card does not have to stay hidden in a wallet.

If a place is part of your story, the card can become part of your online identity too — for example as an image on social media, a profile or another online account.

It is a small way of saying: this place matters to me.
